I'm going to try some sunflowers in a garden I plant at our Public Health Dept. The building shades the plot for seven hours, but we have a lot more sun than that. Hi! THis is a great site with almost all of the information I was lookingfor. The one thing I need to know is this. I have seedlings that I have started indoors They are all nearly 7 inches tall by now, but they are flopping over. I am about to transplant them outside and since they are floppy, I am worried that they won't grow. do I need to tie them to stakes or anything or will they perk up on their own. They are all very hearty and strong, just too tall for their thickness. THanks for all the rest of the info!!

Wow!!Nice site! I have been growing sunflowers for 3 or 4 years now along the side of my apartment.It catches the sun most of the day,and I've had alot of luck with the mammoth variety. Any website devoted to sunflowers is delightful. My sunflower cultivars this summer included Sunspots, Mammoths, Lemons and Autumn Beauties. They almost did not make it, due to predatory rabbits and woodchucks. However, many survived, thanks to my Hav-a-Hart trap and regular use of fox urine as a pest repellent. Their seeds are now attracting many beautiful bumblebees, goldfinches and blue jays to my garden. The birds always drop a few seeds and thus plant a few volunteer sunflowers for the next season, so I welcome their visits to my sunflower patch. I grow many other flowers (dahlias, zinnias, liatris, impatiens, petunias and alyssym), but the sunflowers will forever be my favorites. They have such an exuberant personality!

I was thrilled to find a website dedicated to sunflowers. I grow different sunflowers in my garden each year. They are definately my favorite flower in the garden. I'm trying a sunflower garden in our backyard this year. We don't get sun all day long but our days are L-O-N-G right now so I think it should work. I'd forgotten about starting seeds between wet paper towels. Thanks for the reminder and for a well done site!

Hey guys, How ya doin? My little boy who is six years old brought me a little sunflower plant home for mothers day. We planted it in our front yard right in front of our chimney. Never grew a sunflower befor but always wanted to try. So now it its very tall about 5ft tall and still has no flower on it.How long does it take to sprout a flower and do I have to do anything to make it flower other than water and fert. it? thanks so so much. I like your web site. I am searching for methods to keep cut sunflowers "perky" and not hang their heads. I have raised red sunflowers this year and wish to cut some. I think they are one of the most magnificent flowers growing. The crop fields are amazing.

I love sunflowers. Everyone I know or meet, always knowsthat the sunflower is my fav. It cares it's self so high & proud. I am even going to do my kitchen in sunflowers.
